When the Body Speaks
"It was really great to write from this visceral place." -B.R.
"Loved the small group, the exercises, and the theme!" -K.N.
"Refreshingly spontaneous...It kept me in the direct moment rather than rehashing old stories roaming about in my head-memory." -B.B.
Experiences of the body are often considered private, and we are prone to describing these experiences with clichés and trite expressions. But underneath that superficial layer is a rich language of the body. It is a language aware of the nuanced space of desire, of pain, of everything in between. It is a language that has intimate knowledge of our injuries, indulgences, and inhibitions.
In this 5-week workshop series, we will explore this space and language of the body through writing. Whether you are interested in writing your own body onto the page or developing your attention and descriptive awareness toward the bodies of your fictional characters, this workshop is for you.
Specific writing exercises will focus on individual sensory experience, observation, and imagination. We'll explore the body from the top of our head to the tips of our toes, from the surface of the skin inward, and from the marrow of the bones outward.
This workshop is for writers of all levels and genres as well as anyone who is interested in exploring the body through writing.
